Educational Goals and Philosophy In studying the different philosophies of teaching, I have concluded that I have an eclectic view of my philosophies on education. My goal will be to follow idealism, existentialism and pragmatism. As a teacher, I will study the content that I will be teaching and focus on knowing it very well. Not only will I fulfill my job with the school, but also I will be fulfilling my dream and desires of being a teacher. My passion is to teach children what they do not yet know. The Shawshank Redemption Is A Legend Of The 1990s

Introduction The 1994 prison escape thriller The Shawshank Redemption is a legend of the 1990s. It has been acclaimed as the best prison movie to this date according to IMDb (Stenberg). Many movies following The Shawshank Redemption have tried and failed in their attempts to recreate this behemoth of a movie. Being the critically acclaimed movie that it is, The Shawshank Redemption is bound to have countless reviews critiquing and praising every aspect of the plot, director, setting, and countless other variables. Each of these selected reviews differ in their rating, plot rundown and discussion; and the resemblances and differences can be clearly seen between the reviews as well as the movie itself. Summary Based off of a Stephen King†¦show more content†¦Developmental Section Washington Post writer Desson Howe describes The Shawshank Redemption by saying, â€Å"It wanders down subplots at every opportunity and ignores an abundance of narrative exit points before settling on the aforementioned finale.† (Howe). However, The Hollywood Report writer Duane Byrge describes The Shawshank Redemption by saying, â€Å"In the lead roles, both Robbins and Freeman are outstanding, layering their performances with snippets of individuality: Their small, daily sustenances and minor triumphs are wonderfully inspiring.† (Byrge). Following in the same theme of Byrge’s review, another film reviewer, Janet Maslin of The New York Times, praises the delicacy of director Frank Darabont and the hard work of the actors Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins are praised immensely (Maslin). Unlike the reviews of Maslin and Byrge, Howe paints The Shawshank Redemption in a bad light, and while a few other critics share the same views as Howe, those critics keep their reviews short and to the point without much reason. Having said that, Howe is one of few that does take his review and backs it up with reasonings from the movie, pointing out nuances that could go unnoticed unless otherwise stated. Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Essay Example For Students

Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Essay In Ernest Hemingways The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber the truecharacter which is fit to qualify as the code hero is Francis Macomber. It isnot obvious at first considering that in the story Francis is portrayed as acowardly fearful man, as opposed to the manly and brave Wilson, who seems theperfect character to be the code hero. With the lion hunting incident at theopening of the story, Francis cowards off from the lions roar alone, runningto safety in front of his wife, which defies the code by not having acceptablebehavior in facing death, while Wilson goes in to face the lion and kills himbravely. Yet where the theme of the story is concerned, Francis faces a biggerchallenge than Wilson can ever imagine. Francis is a cowardly man, notphysically, but mainly mentally. He lacks self esteem and belief in his ownself, which leads to people stepping all over him, like his wife does. His wifeopenly cheats on Francis, only because she is convinced that he is too muchafraid if she left him, he cant be wanted by another woman. Francisbehavior towards her is the root of her observation, he is convinced that he isless than what he is and she underestimates him just the same. Wilson is a toughman, who bravely earns a living by hunting wild safari animals for rich men whocome for hobby and to impress their wives. He is not facing an inner turmoillike Francis, just physical ones that he knows he can handle. He has muchesteem, he is positive that he can overcome any challenge that his job brings. For his own hobby, he pleasures the wives of the rich men he works for. In thestorys climax, Francis proves to be the character Hemingway uses to fulfillhis code hero. Francis seems not to fit the code in the beginning of the story, for the Hemingway code hero must: avoid death at all costs, which Francis doesin a cowardly way that defies the second rule; when in face of death the heromust have acceptable behavior. At the near end of the story, Francis fulfillsthe code by thinking up in a quick minute, just like the code, is a man ofaction, he doesnt think before he goes into the bush, he just lives for themoment with excitement. Francis, as the true Hemingway code hero, goes all hislife being a certain way, a cowardly man who is afraid of everything deep insidethat intimidates him, he has a life altering experience when his wife cheats onhim with the man who intimidates him the most at the moment, Wilson, he decidesto be brave and changes his fearful ways, just goes about his way by facing thebuffaloes as bravely as can be. At that moment the person who uses him for hisdiscontent in himself, Margot, realizes that he has changed and he will now havethe guys to leave her. The woman who before threatened Francis endlessly when hestood up for himself now is in fear that the cards are turned. Unfortunately forFrancis he dies of bravery when his wife mistakenly shoots him in the back ofthe head, missing the bull charging on to him, trying desperately to saveFrancis life. A major difference is this in Hemingways two exemplary codeheroes, Francis Macomber and Frederic Henry of A Farewell to Arms,Frederic actually lives on to change his ways of thinking and his values. .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .postImageUrl , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:hover , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:visited , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:active { border:0!important; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:active , .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958 .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2830c8a632c47a509503d77485590958:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Managerial Business Plan Of Crystal Pierson EssayFrancis is a misfortuned man who finally is saved and dies from cowardice by hisbravery sprouted from anger and jealousy and intimidation all rolled into one. What is Chlamydia an Example of the Topic All Posts by

What is Chlamydia? With over three million cases in the United States and ten million worldwide added each year, chlamydia has become the most prevalent and commonly contracted sexually transmitted disease (STD). Like the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), it is spread through sexual contact vaginal, oral, and anal intercourse with an infected partner. A bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis that lives in an infected womans vaginal secretions or in an infected mans semen causes the infection. Higher infection rates are found in sexually active teenagers especially females (Balch, 2006, p. 320). Need essay sample on "What is Chlamydia?" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed Chlamydia is known as a silent yet dangerous disease. Statistics shows that as many as 50 percent of the men and 75 percent of the women who have chlamydia are symptoms free. If the infection is severe enough, women may experience genital inflammation, vaginal or urethral discharge, difficulty in urinating and a burning sensation during urination, painful intercourse, and itching around the inflamed area. In males, signs of infection are visible with prostatitis (symptoms include pain when urinating and a watery mucous discharge from the penis), inflammation of the seminal vesicles, and pain and swelling in the testicles (Balch, 2006, p. 321). When symptoms of chlamydia are detected, it is very important to seek urgent treatment. For women, untreated infection may lead to sterility. To make sure that the disease is not transmitted back and forth, both partners must be medicated. Antibiotics can also easily cure chlamydia-infected people. Natural therapies, like water fast or fasting using fruit and vegetable juices, were also proven to be of help in reducing the dangers of complications of this sexually transmitted disease (Goldberg, Trivieri & Anderson, 2002, p. 906). However, the most helpful way to prevent and treat the spread of the bacteria is to refrain from multiple sexual relationship. Reference: Balch, P. A. (2006). Prescription for Nutritional Healing. What makes asian growth so phenomenal free essay sample

Asian cities have been tended to grow more quickly than Western cities, so what makes their growth so phenomenal? The accelerated rate may be attributed to population dynamics, economic markets and or/socio-political conditions, poor planning and disregarding environmental hazards like flood plains have held them back. Many primate cities in Asia have grown to become megacities, and some more are rapidly increasing in size to assume such a status by the end of the century. This is a remarkable phenomenon fraught with various implications, favorable or unfavorable. In 1960 there were only two megacities in the region, which were, Tokyo and Shanghai. In 1970 Beijing was added, and Asia had three of 10 megacities in the world, or two of five in the developing world. By 1980 Bombay, Cacutta, Osaka, and Seoul also assumed similar status, and Asia had seven of 15 world megacities. In 1990, with Tianjin, Jakarta, Delhi, and Manila becoming megacities, developing Asia contained nine of 14 mega-cities in the less developed regions. We will write a custom essay sample on What makes asian growth so phenomenal or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In my opinion, I believe that the population dynamics are the most influential to urban growth. Population Examination Over two centuries, from 18th century to 20th century, the level of mortality has changed dramatically in Asian countries. The demographers use life expectancy of birth, which is the average number of years that newborn baby can be expected to live, as a mean to measure the mortality level. Generally, the life expectancy of birth has increased rapidly from the beginning of 18th century. In some countries of Asia like Japan and Ceylon, the death rate has been tending to fall since the 1920’s. But in most countries it began to show a rapid tendency toward decline only after World War II. According to recent data, the death rate is 12.1 per 1,000 for India, 9.1 for Ceylon, 7.1-7.3 for Hongkong, Taiwan and the Philippines, and 6.5 per 1,000 for Singapore. If these death rates were expressed in terms of standardized death rates, the latter would be higher than the former in Asia where the proportion of juvenile population is higher. But, even using standardized death rates, we can conclude that there has been a marked mortality decline in Asian countries. Particularly remarkable is the decline in infant mortality. The former infant mortality of 200 per 1,000 for India has now been reduced to half. In almost all countries it is far below the 100 per 1,000 levels. Burma, however, with an infant mortality rate of  slightly more than 100 per 1,000 is an exception. Also, while observing mortality rate, birth rate is considered in why Asian population growth is phenomenal. The birth rate in boys is 9.17 births per 1,000 population and for girls 8.39 births per 1,000 population giving it a total of 17.56 births per 1,000 population, being much higher than the United States which is at 12.7 per 1,000 population. Other Factors Being that there are many other factors that could have been chosen as the reason Asian growth is so phenomenal, I truly did not believe any of them really stood up to par as population did. The first that I would like to examine is economic market. Although the economic market is doing extremely well I do not believe it determines why Asia is growing so quickly. â€Å"The three largest Asian countries, China, Indonesia and India, place 89th, 122nd and 133rd respectively in the World Bank’s ‘ease of doing business rankings.’ In order to sustain the growth, physical infrastructure will need to be prioritized: the Asian Development Bank estimates that $8 trillion is needed for infrastructure development. Demographics will pose a challenge. In East Asia there is the rapid aging of the population, while in Central and South Asia education and employment will need to be found to stave off possible socio-political unrest among the booming youth population† (Lehmann 2010). The following article shows that the correlation between economics and population is negative; this being one of the main reasons why I believe economics does not have the greatest effect on Asian growth, but is still an important factor. Though there are multiple reasons the population is growing so rapidly, there are a countless amount of events and tragedies holding the population back. There is a lot of deforestation and desertification going on in Asia. They are exploiting the land for a profit, for example in Burma they exploit timber, oil and mineral resources to support their government. There are also poor farmers all over using improper irrigation and fertilization practices causing a lot of the soil to be toxic. Another huge issue in Asia is water, due to the massive population it costs a ridiculous amount to treat the water so most water is polluted by untreated sewage, salt water, and industrial discharges. Conclusion In closing, Asian cities have been tended to grow more quickly than Western cities. Although, there are many attributes this such as population dynamics, economic markets and or/socio-political conditions, poor planning and disregarding environmental hazards like flood plains have held them back and only one, in my opinion, is the main reason for extreme growth. I believe that the population dynamics are the most influential to urban growth. Putting into consideration the great economy and socio political conditions even then I still believe that population dynamics is the greatest reason for massive growth. Being that there are factors holding them back it is still fascinating to see that Asia is growing so quickly.

MEDIA COVERAGE FOR SELF-PUBLISHED WRITER

MEDIA COVERAGE FOR SELF-PUBLISHED WRITER Since newspapers generally have a policy of NOT reviewing self-published books its almost impossible to get a book review in any newspaper. Some papers go so far as to not review anything published A feature story about you is more credible and likely to generate interest than a review of your book. So look at your life and see what you have to offer newspapers readers. Do you collect Santa Claus dolls or trains? Have you turned your living room into a bird sanctuary where 50 birds fly free where your couch used to sit? Do you spend your weekends building tree houses for neighborhood kids? I wrote feature stories on all these people. When you can get a reporter interested in you running your 10th marathon, or heading up the drive to distribute sleeping bags to the homeless its very easy to work in, Oh, and I just published a book. If you have something in your life to pitch to a reporter OTHER than your book, youre almost guaranteed to be able to talk about writing the book in the article. Your self-published book may drive interest in something the public wants to know about. For instance, a parent who self-publishes a book on how to get through the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of her childs cancer to raise money for cancer research or her child, is likely to get a reporters attention. So is the coach who writes a book on how to introduce your child to sports. If you have a recognized expertise, most reporters will find a story in that. Have you written a book on the history of your town and had to go on some amazing road trips, or dig into old courthouse documents, or interview veterans in a near Are you related to someone famous who is mentioned in the book? You dont have to be Oprahs long lost sister, but if the towns local celebrity is related to you, then good for you! If youre a famous coach, teacher or political figure who self-publishes a book, chances are youll get the attention of any small town paper. Think holidays! If youve written a book on Thanksgiving traditions, or how to wrap Christmas gifts, or anything related to the big holidays- Veterans Day/Memorial Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas, Easter etc., MOST small to medium newspapers will write a story to tie the holiday to a local person. Dont stop at your daily paper. Almost all cities have alternative papers, and rural areas have weekly papers. If you live in a bedroom community then chances are you have a weekly paper whod love to write about your book. But read several issues of the paper FIRST, before you write the editor. Try to see if your book has relevance for the readership. There are all kinds of weekly papers for seniors, grandparents, sports enthusiasts, fishermen and parents. Try to find a paper (most are free and distributed at libraries, grocery stores and shopping centers) that caters to people who would be interested in your book. Dont try to get a grandparenting magazine to review your Sci-fi thriller. Do get a parenting magazine to look at your How I Learned to Get Offline and Love the Playground book on parenting in a high tech society. Dont forget bloggers! Many of the larger newspapers read local blogs and will pick up on any content that generates online buzz. The trick is to never stop marketing! You can do it!

Integrated Technology Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Integrated Technology Systems - Essay Example However, humanity is developing ever since the first dawn of jungle life when humans were living in caves and eating raw flesh of animals and they used leaves to cover their bodies but one thing they had in common with modern man and it was the urge to develop and grow into better beings. This need helped them in the conquest of building agricultural societies which finally gave birth to industrialized cities and the most advanced form of civilization exists in the form of knowledge communities of the west and all advancement is being considered as the result of the need of humans to experience betterment (Peck, 2005). Wright brothers developed first working model of an aeroplane which was in fact based on the theoretical work of Leonardo Di Vinci and currently same principles are refined in order build planes like Boeing 777 that have a wing span of more than 200 feet. The development is the essence of human existence and therefore, evolution always remained a defining attribute of human race. The climatologists are always remained interested in gauging climate change, rain and wind speed. In early days of the field, raw footers were used in order to measure the level of rainfall and with the passage of time; humans developed more sophisticated means to do that. Again the process of evolution kicked in and scientists effectively developed new measures for gauging rainfall. However, the basic principles remained the same but techniques changed dramatically over the past few decades. Even in the modern age of the 21st century, weather experts are measuring rainfall in millimetres and centimetres. The main idea of scientific development is to minimize the level of human effort needed to get the job done. The concepts remain the same and means of applying them change as world clock moves forwards (Kemp, 1994). The conventional methods of measuring rainfall were crude and these were more

New York Wicks Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

New York Wicks Law - Essay Example Studies have shown that the impact of Wicks Law has been to increase the cost of construction by an average of ten percent. Along with this come delays and hassles for coordinating the sub contracting work and all in all Wicks Law acts as a deterrent for school construction work besides the cost over runs. Again, estimates are that ten percent of the $3.7 billion spent on public school construction was on account of the cost over runs due to Wicks Law and this wasted money could have been utilized for education programs. That there is truth in these assertions can be seen from the fact that the authorities from time to time have considered ways of doing away with Wicks Law and have provided exemptions to it. Opposition especially from the sub-contractors have made the authorities shy away from the abolition of Wicks Law and look for ways and means to amend the Law such that there is a reduction of its impact on construction. The sub contractors themselves are quietly accepting that W icks Law is out dated and preparing themselves for the changes that can be expected in the near future, with even the possibility of the abolition of Wicks Law. (Phillips, Mathew. â€Å"Wicks Law at last may be ripe for repeal this year†). Reforms: The abolition of Wicks Law in no way suggests that the rationale was wrong and it only needs to be changed in tune with the changing times. That there should be a separation of the sub-contracting work still remains a requirement, but it should not be mandated, that separate contracts be awarded for the work.

The tools they used all had a specific purpose that resulted in a way of life, farming. By becoming a writer, the narrator has broken the mold of his family. Throughout the poem, he considers the spade his father and grandfather used, and the pen is obviously not as useful in a physical sense as the spade. But, by comparing the pen to a gun, the narrator is giving it power. The pen cannot gather food from the earth or split turf to sell, but the words it creates can be as powerful as a gun. Words have inspired wars and resulted in the imprisonment of writers. The next juxtaposed images are of the father gardening and the father digging potatoes. In the first stanza, the narrator is composing at a window. While he is writing, his father is below the window digging in flower beds. This image thrusts the narrator into the past where he remembers his father digging potatoes. The juxtaposed images are present in the line, â€Å"I look down / Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds / Bends low, comes up twenty years away† (Heaney 5-7). This image mirrors the thoughts of the narrator about the usefulness of his pen. The father once engaged in meaningful work with his shovel, digging potatoes, but he now spends his time digging in flower beds. The narrator feels the same about his ancestry and his current occupation. He is a writer, which is the practical equivalent of digging in flower beds instead of in a potato patch. The image continues as the narrator travels back to memories of his grandfather, who used his tools for one purpos e, cutting peat. For the narrator, the value of a tool seems to

The Language Proficiency Assessment For Teachers

The Language Proficiency Assessment For Teachers Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority announced the result of Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT) in recently, the overall result in English Language has continuous decreased. LPAT consist of five papers in reading, writing, listening, speaking and classroom assessment. Except for the listening paper result is increase 2% passing rate in last year, all others paper has decreased. The Language Proficiency Assessment published by the government of Hong Kong SAR since 2000, after 10 years implementation, the teachers English language standard still cannot achieve public expectation, nearly half of the candidates are failed in assessment in every year. Some teachers said it make them feel humiliated dignity, because they still repeat the trial in many times. Research Question The candidate failure in Hong Kong Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT) in continuous few years, why are they failure in this test? Many candidates feels stress under the test, is it a real reason as behind of the failure? Purpose of the study The audience of this study is including decision-makers and candidates. The purpose of this study is discussing the reasons of the candidates failure in LPAT. Some teachers said that the questions are too difficult for them and they dont have this kind of study when they were a student, they feel stress between the test and their job. I will discuss the difficult and find out the problem when candidates are facing to LPAT. Histories of the LPAT Along with education reform, teachers are encouraged to strive for higher levels of language proficiency, and to enhance their professionalism in subject knowledge and pedagogy through training. According by the Education Bureau published in September of 2000, all new recruits teachers (include teaching in Primary and Secondary school teacher) in English level are required to pass the benchmark test (known as LPAT now), as is currently teaching in English teachers, they must be fulfill the standard before 2006 year, the teacher can be through the training or examination to achieve. Otherwise, they are not allowed to teaching the related language subject. The objective of government is to ensure that all language teachers possess at least basic language proficiency, so that they can promote effective teaching and enhance the quality of education, provide professional teaching. Teachers were taken in the streets to protest the policy announced in 2001 when government introduced the LPAT to testify the English teachers are really qualify to do that job. Some teachers association to be against the assessment as at today, they believed LPAT will increase the pressure on teachers. Bibliography review in study Many of teachers said that they feel stress in the LPAT test, some of these even quit their job as an English teacher, LPAT is the main reason for them to leave their industry, especially for someone has taken the LPAT test in a few times, they are no confidence in a teaching field. The below theories may help to explain their performance in the test and why they failure. Firstly, the cognitive theoretical approach (Lazarus 1999) suggested that the best way to view the stress process is as a transaction between the person and environment which means the stress may be come from the event itself, the persons age, culture and experience. The teachers stress is come form the test, the teacher entry in their field before the LPAT is implement, the education reform make a change in the educate cultural, they may afraid the change in their age because they will lost their job when failed in LPAT. Methodology using in study In LPAT is including in five papers, these are reading, writing, listening, speaking and classroom assessment. I will focus on writing part in this study because most of candidates are failed in this paper in the past ten years. In writing part, it also divided into 2 section, first part is detection and correction of errors/problems, but we will focus on the second part is explanation of errors/problem, because most of the candidates feels confuse in this part. They cant make accuracy answer in this section. I am going to find out the problem of the candidate when they are facing in writing paper. I will adopt 2 methods to collect the data and try to analysis the various possible reasons. Method 1: Interview Interview is one of the methods to reflect the actual situation in LPAT, interview to different role can be reflecting their opinions on LPAT test. a) The man of the street Respondents: Including student, business man, foreigner and who can speak English. Our interview should be including different segmentation of the people to make the result is more precise and objective. Different role can be reflecting different opinions of the LPAT, we need to consider on the role when doing an interview. Location: In Central, Sheung Wan or Wanchai. We need to choose an appropriate place to conduct the interview make it precise. These three places are including different kind of person, different segmentation of the person can be finding in these places. We are looking for someone who has basic language knowledge to conduct an interview, the English language level of these places is higher than other district, so that it is an appropriate place for interview. Process: We can choose two or three questions from the past paper, those are most common mistake in the previous LPAT test. Select a different degree of depth in the question. Starting with the easily question to interview an interviewee, according to interviewees respond to continuous the other questions. We request the interviewee point out the error from the question and ask them to correct it in the right answer. Compare the answer by the interviewee how to different with the candidate. b) Candidates Respondents: Who is planning to have an assessment in future and failed in assessment in pervious LPAT test. They are the most important interviewee because they lead the most important role in the assessment, when they are preparing for the assessment, they will clearly to know the difficult in between. Someone who failed in assessment, they may help to analysis the reasons of failed in the test. Location: Any place let the interviewee feels comfortable Process: It can be conducting in one by one interview or telephone interview. Using telephone interview because some of the candidate is existing teacher in the school, they are not willing to disclose the identity, they may afraid to affect the image of them or their school. So, these kinds of interview make them feels security and more objective. In one by one interview, it may give a mock paper for the interviewee who is planning to have assessment, all question will be find in past paper. After that, we can check the answer together, to discuss the real answer and ask the interviewee feels after they finished the mock paper. This mock paper helps us to analysis the real problem in LPAT test. Professional in language scope Respondents: They can be a school principal, English lecturer in University, representative of Education Bureau or who is involve in LPAT. Location: Any place let an interviewee feels convenience, may be in their office. Process: This group of interviewee can be share their experience in the test, help us to cognitive the question in the LPAT, they will know more about the meaning of the LPAT, help to find out the deep reason that are failed in the test. Method 2: Research in the past paper Some of the teachers said that the question of the writing part is too difficult for them, so they dont have a sense in the past in some question. We are trying to find out some questions in previous past paper, to compare the degree of the question in LPAT paper, go through the questions are belonging to which level student. We will obtain 5 previous LPAT in writing paper of explanation of errors/problem section, find out the pattern of the question in these 5 years, analysis which grammatical features is often occur in paper, find the possibility of the most common question in the paper. After research, we will know that the weakness of the candidate and analysis. Such as the most common question focus on tenses, infinitive and defining clause in the previous paper. According to these analyses, it can give us a reference to recognize the question is easier one or difficult one, to verify the teachers view is correct or not. Modern Feminism and Violence Against Women Essay -- Gender Studies

The 20th century has seeing many progresses for women across the world. Prehistory showed that women could not vote, educational institution excluded them, and work outside the home was limited. Women today live longer and are more educated, enjoy more job opportunities, and earn a little higher salary. However, we still live in a world were society is run by religious laws, customs, and male dominances. These traditions and customs still limit women mobility and women are still regarded as subordinate to men and violence against women still exists despite having many strives in the 20th century. In many countries around the world women still find themselves limited from education, employment, health care, political influences, wage equality, and rights solely due to their gender. Whereby, violence against women is regarded as unfair treatment towards women and it reflects the inequality which still exists in our society today between genders. However the invention of modern feminism has been the naming and exposure of the violence women endure. Modern feminism would argue that violence against women is not just related to men in power, nor that women enjoy violence and domination, and or that victim of abuse invited the violence on themselves but rather rape and any other act of violence against women is a social and societal, historic and cultural, and economical issue that is rooted in the relationship of power and dominance between men and women which is infused in a patriarchy society. The main focus of this paper is to explore how violence against women is viewed in modern feminism. First, the term modern feminism and violence against women will be defined. This paper will be using term such as gender which refers to h... ..., D. (2010). Counting woman abuse: a cautionary tale of two surveys. Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer, Robert Reich Essays

Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer, Robert Reich Essays Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer, Robert Reich Paper Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer, Robert Reich Paper Why Do The Rich Become Richer and The Poor Poorer? In this world, there are two types of people are living: Poor and rich. Country, company, organization and individual are attempting to be rich than other. We may observe the lifestyle of our society, country or person or friend. We attain differ each other because of money or wealth. Today , every person are talking about own or others wealth. More books such as one by Robert Reich are written and printed or digitiged about this topic. Robert Reichs perspective Robert Reich in his work â€Å"Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer† discusses the issues surrounding the rich becoming more affluent and the poor languishing in poverty hence the reason why the economy continues to worsen. According to the author, what people do in the world depicts the positions they will partake. He uses three examples to explain this situation. These are routine producers, in-person servers and symbolic analysts. He describes routine producers as those who work in the manufacturing industries and these people are poor because they are not members of any unions, they are paid very low wages and they are constantly replaced by technological machines. Robert Reich uses the examples of rising and falling of boats due to tides to explain the differences that exist between the rich and the poor.Companies and education play a big role in the increasing gap between the rich and the poor. In contemporary America, those who are educated continue to prosper while those who lack basic education are disadvantaged when it comes to employment opportunities. Companies are opting to employ workers from over seas because it is cheaper to pay them. The in-person servers’ boat is also sinking because their position is threatened by the routine producers. In-person servers are those who are in the personal service industry. Routine producers who cannot find employment are increasingly becoming in-person servers and this poses a threat to the availability of employment opportunities for in-person servers. These routine producers include immigrants and school dropouts. Moreover, the reasons why routine producers join the in-person server world are technological advancements and lack of working benefits. In addition, the symbolic analysts continue to become wealthy because their clients are wealthy. Their business includes selling valuable information to their clients especially about money matters. The writer concludes that the economy of the country does not depend solely on its citizens but on the whole world. Robert Reich denotes that routine producers will soon be faced out of the employment industry. This is given by the fact that more companies are embracing technology in production therefore buying machinery instead of using labor. In addition, these companies are establishing themselves in developing countries where they will pay workers less than the minimum wage. This is strategy used by the rich to maintain and increase their wealth within and without America. Given by these two factors, routine workers in America remain unemployed and poor and as a result, the gap between the rich and the poor will continue to widen. My thoughts on why the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer In my opinion, there is a reason why â€Å"the rich become richer and the poor become poorer†. It’s not because of a disparity or unfairness in society, and it’s not just luck. It’s not limited government, and it’s not more government. There is really only one reason that rich people tend to increase their wealth and poor people don’t. It’s because successful people take advantage of a principle (whether they know it or not) that eludes the â€Å"unsuccessful†.

In this regard, a teacher should focus on the student’s interests and create an appropriate and predictable individual schedule (the tasks should consist of a number of simple steps with detailed instructions understandable fo r a student). At the same time, instructions should be constructed so that they could be implemented within classroom activities among other students. Thus, the annual goal is to assist student becoming an independent member of the social environment, developing student’s social skills and enhance interaction with student’s peers through engaging him/her in structured social activities and providing step by step reinforcement of social behavior. The annual goal is related to emotional and communicational domains. The learner, under consideration is a student with Asperger syndrome who does his study in general classroom. Mark is 15 years old and according to ICD-10 criteria, he has the syndromes that follow: lack of any clinically significant general delay in language or cognitive development; qualitative impairment in reciprocal social interaction as in autism and a restricted pattern of interests and behavior. The presence of clumsiness, although not an established f eature of the syndrome (Ghaziuddin, Metier, Ghaziuddin, Tsai, Giordani 1993). Considering his diagnosis, interests and current academic performance, the target behavior for this student is better interaction with peers in classroom, engaging in non-referential topics with other students, as well as with adults; student will be also developing expressive language skills and receptive language.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Functional objectives Mark will develop understanding of dependence between his words and actions and their effect on other students, as well as parents and people with whom he commun icates in daily life. Mark will engage in appropriate social activities and interactions initiated by his peers and will allow them to make changes in the activity. Mark will develop expressive and receptive language while relating information taken from different books and providing background statements without paying attention to details. Factors considered when selecting this goal for the student include: Mark’s poor social adaptation, interest to reading books, hardships with providing general information. The goal is functional because they presuppose students’, teachers’ and parents’ active participation in their realization, and encourage Mark to take practical actions to implement these goals. Long-term goals for Mark’s education are further development of social and communication skills in order to help Mark become an independent member of society and teach him handle with his syndrome. They are related to the annual goal because they ar e related to the same (emotional and communicational) domains and present the final goal of Mark’s education. Texas government politics - Essay Example Jane is likely to face resistance from the Latino and African American communities in the state. DQ1charwill and DQ2. DD Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

DQ1charwill and DQ2. DD - Essay Example When selecting dimensions of job satisfaction, it is essential to be vigilant since it may contribute to either retaining or sending away the employees. An example of a dimension is the satisfaction with the fulfillment of job. This is a sense of accomplishment that the employees seem to have possessed after using their skills maximally and it further motivates them to put more effort (Stewart, 2012). As a result, it contributes to the employees` retention. The writer portrays a good character towards the employees because in his company, individuals get challenged constantly and have the freedom of giving their opinions for the better of the company. An example of a job satisfaction dimension that does not contribute to the retention of employees is `satisfaction with a group.’ Due to the fact that most employees prefer personal work, when placed in to groups, the outcome at many times affects the company negatively because of different personality (Hellriegel, & Slocum, 2011 ). There are other additional several steps or methods that the company may employ to ensure that high-quality employees are retained. Firstly, the company can retain employees of high quality by availing favorable opportunities to them that may help them the earn more (Fannie, 2012). Another step is to appreciate the ethical practices, conducting proper communication with them and adopting an acceptable culture within the organization. Patriotic reverence for the history Essay Example for Free

Patriotic reverence for the history Essay Patriotic reverence for the history of a nation often does more to impede than toencourage progress History always brings with itself lots of experience. People always learn from their past. Butis relying on the history nation the right path to progress? Does our past always teach us theright lessons? What we do today will be past someday. Does that mean we will always end updoing right if we follow our history. The answer is no. Showing high patriotic reverencecannot always be the right path for a nation’s progress. Relying on history for our current needs would be nothing more than intuition. The situationwe have at our hands can be very different from that experienced in the past. The demandthen becomes to handle it with new ways and techniques. For example maintaining peace inthe world today is the most important factor for any country’s progress. If we look at history, nations earlier had a tendency to acquire and conquer as much as they can. The Germans inthe World War II killed millions of people in their neighboring countries in thirst of more andmore power. The world has witnessed many wars that have hampered progress. Thus theneed of the hour for all nations is to sit down and talk. Nations now need to have a friendlyattitude towards each other for maintaining progress. Nations have signed peace treaties, which includes the nuclear proliferation treaties. The nations have now started thinking of progress on a global prospective. The economic progress of a nation particularly developing countries has also been verydifferent from the past. The trends and graphs are very different from that in the past. Thecorporate world has been developing and expanding exponentially. The economic market isnow governed by new rules with no excerpts from the past. So, the demand of the hour cannot be met by completely relying on the past. But just learningfrom our experiences. If we refer to our past, we need to draw proper analogies between thetwo time variant situations. But this can be a very difficult task as the scenario and theessence of things for todays world are completely different.

DBQ: Ancient Greek Civilization There were many great ancient civilizations that set the foundation for modern western culture to develop; yet none influenced our modern-day civilization more than the Greeks. The ancient Greeks were revolutionaries in many fields, such as science, philosophy, governmental structure, and warfare tactics. Without Greek influence, the world today would lack some of its greatest pieces of art, philosophy, and human values. The ancient Greeks revolutionized human thought and philosophy, changed mankind’s values toward human life, and introduced art and culture that exemplifies human creativity of the era. Greeks revolutionized human thought and philosophy. They were the first civilization to embrace the idea that humans can reason, and self-examination is important for mankind if man wishes to better understand himself and his world. For instance, one of Greece’s most famous philosophers, Socrates, stated: â€Å"The unexamined life is not worth living,† (Document 1). Socrates is one of the most renowned philosophers in all of ancient Greece. His statement is revolutionary because it demonstrates how mankind must examine his own life to make it meaningful, a new theory in the world. Previously, man accepted the notion that you were born in your place and must accept whatever your ruler and/or priest tells you believe, but Socrates believed that man must examine himself to truly better their own lives. Another revolutionary thought of the Greeks was made in the fields of mathematics. For example a Greek mathematician named Euclid developed the theorem: â€Å"If you straight lines cut one another, the vertical, or opposite, angles shall be equal,† (Document 5). Euclid is a prime example of how Greeks advanced in the mathematical world, pushing human thought to new limits. The Greeks were very influential on our modern concepts of mathematics, laying the foundation for advances in all scientific fields. Even though the Greeks set the foundation for modern sciences and philosophy, their most important contribution in this area is undoubtedly their appreciation and respect for human reason. Greeks took great pride in their ability to reason. For instance, another famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle, stated: â€Å"Since human reason is the most godlike part of human ature, a life guided by human reason is superior to any other†¦ For man, this is the life of reason, since the faculty of reason is distinguished characteristics of human beings,† (Document 2). Aristotle believed the most important characteristic of human nature is the ability to reason. The Greeks were the first use logic to solve their problems. They used their logic to understand the natural world and question authority, using logic to make decisions best for themselves and thei r polis. The Greeks revolutionized human thought, setting the foundation for possible advancement in our western civilization.

How Higher Taxes for The Rich Actually Hurt the Poor

How Higher Taxes for The Rich Actually Hurt the Poor Do the rich actually pay for the higher taxes when they become law? Technically, the answer is yes. But the reality is that those costs are usually just passed on to other people or spending is restricted. Either way, the net effect is often a huge hit on the economy. Millions of small and medium-sized businesses fall into the target zone for higher taxation. If a small business is hit with higher costs due to an increase in fuel prices or raw goods, those increases are usually just passed on to the consumers, and those with less disposable income see their costs rise to sometimes devastating levels. Trickle-Down Taxation If the feed for livestock increases due to demand, that cost increase is eventually added into the price of a gallon of milk or a pound of cheese. When gas prices more than double causing the transportation costs of the milk and cheese to double, those costs are also built into the prices. And when taxes (income taxes, corporate taxes, Obamacare taxes or otherwise) are raised on the businesses that either produce, transport, or sell the milk and cheese those costs will equally show up in the price of the product. Businesses simply dont just absorb increased costs. Higher taxes are treated no differently than other forms of increased costs and are typically trickled down and paid by consumers in the long run. This makes life harder for both the small businesses seeking to survive by keeping costs competitive but being unable to do so and Americans with less money to spend than just a few years earlier. Middle Class and the Poor hit Hardest on Higher Taxes The main argument made by conservatives is that you dont want to raise taxes on anyone - especially in tough economics times - because the burden of those costs eventually is spread out and hurt lower income Americans. As seen above, higher taxes are simply just passed on to consumers. And when you have many people and businesses involved in the production, transportation, and distribution of products, and they are all paying higher costs, the added costs built into the selling prices quickly begin to add up for the end consumer. So the question is who is most likely to be harmed by increased taxes on the rich? Ironically, it may be the income brackets that continue to demand those higher taxes on others. Taxed More, Spending Less Higher taxes have other consequences that can also impact the lower and mid-range income brackets more than the wealthier people those taxes are supposedly aimed at. Its simple, really: When people have less money, they spend less money. Thats less money spent on personal services, products, and luxury items. Anyone who has a job in sectors that sell expensive cars, boats, houses, or other sometimes luxurious items (in other words, anyone in manufacturing, retail, and construction industries) should want to have a large pool of people looking to buy. Sure its fun to say that so-and-so doesnt need another jet. But if I make jet parts, work as a mechanic, own an airport hangar or am a pilot looking for a job I want there to be as many jets purchased by as many people as possible. Higher taxes on investments also means fewer dollars spent investing as the reward starts to be less worth the risk. After all, why take the chance at losing already-taxed money when any returns on that investment are taxed at even higher rates? The purpose of low capital gains taxes is to encourage people to invest. Higher taxes means less investing. And that would hurt new or struggling businesses seeking financial backing. And taxing charitable donations at normal income rates would also reduce the amount of charitable giving. And who benefits the most from charitable giving? Lets just say not the rich who would simply just be forced to donate less. Liberals: Punish The Rich out of Fairness Its generally accepted that raising taxes on the rich would do little to reduce deficits, close funding gaps, or help the economy. When asked about the potential negatives of raising taxes on anyone, President Obama usually just answers that the matter is about fairness. Then what follows are lies about how the wealthy pay less than fast food workers or secretaries. For instance, Mitt Romneys effective tax rate of about 14% puts him at a tax rate higher than 97% of the population, according to the Tax Foundation. (Nearly half of Americans pay a 0% income tax rate). Its just fair to tax people who have a lot more money than everybody else. Warren Buffett said that it would raise the morale of the middle class to have the rich pay more, also using the false argument that people like Mitt Romney pay less than most middle-class Americans. In reality, a taxpayer would have to make well over $200,000 in regular income to match the Romney or Buffett tax rates. (Thats even taking into account the millions upon millions both guys give to charity, another reason for the low-for-millionaires-but-higher-than-most effective tax rate.) Its also unfortunate to think that any individuals morale would be raised simply because the government takes more and more from someone else. But perhaps that defines the difference between a liberal and a conservative.

Where in the Country Should You Go to College

Where in the Country Should You Go to College SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips One of the biggest decisions you’ll make in the process of choosing a college is where in the country you’d like to be. There are some ways that location can impact your college experience and other ways that it can be irrelevant. I’ll give you an overview of why or why not location might matter to you and how you can make an informed choice about where to go! Why Might It Matter Where in the Country You Go to College? There are a few reasons why where your college is located might impact your experiences. Here are some things to consider. Your LocationWill Affect How Frequently You Can Visit Home If you choose to go to college in a part of the country that’s far from your hometown, you won’t be able to visit your parents and high school friends as often. You might have to spend some holidays apart from your family because of the costs and logistics of travel. If you go to college near where you live, you will probably be able to visit home and see your family very frequently. This can have its drawbacks if your parents are especially overbearing or you end up neglecting your social life at college and going home every weekend instead. Different Areas Are Better for Different Types of Career Opportunities If, for example, you want to go into the performing arts, it might be advantageous for you to be in a place like New York City for college. If you’re interested in computer science and the startup scene, you might fit better in the Bay Area in California. If you're interested in healthcare, you could consider going to school in a state like Massachusetts where there are many excellent hospitals. Certainareas of the country are known for their specialization in specific industries, so they might be better or worse places for you in terms of jobs andinternships. If you're already thinking about this in high school, it's officially time to mourn for your childhood. Cost of Living May Be Lower or Higher in Different Areas of the Country In general, it’s more expensive to live in coastal states, particularly in large cities. If you want to rent an apartment at some point in college, you’ll have a much easier time affording it in a Midwestern state than you willin New York City. Cities overall can end up costing you more money because of the price of going out to events and the temptation to eat off-campus all the time.New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. lead the pack in term of the most expensive major US cities based on average rent and other costs of living. The Weather in Different Areas of the Country Varies Significantly This is a no-brainer, but it’s something to consider. In New England, you’ll experience the four seasons, but it might get extremely cold and unpleasant in the winter. In the South, you won’t have any problems keeping warm, but the heat can be brutal and seasonal changes are minimal. Some people might find that they’re happier in areas where it’s sunny and warm most of the time, and others might be eager to experience their first snowfall in college while sipping a mug of hot chocolate. Stop trying to make winter happen. It's not going to happen. Why Might It NotMatter Where in the Country You Go to College? Although there are some reasons to think about regional location as a factor in your college decision, you should also keep in mind that if the factors listed above aren’t important to you, your experiences won’t suffer based on where you are. You don’t need to be in a specific place to get a solid education. There may be more selective schools in certain areas, but there are at least a couple of schools in every region where the quality of your educational experience will be high. Some of the best schools are in remote areas that you wouldn’t think about, like Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, which is consistently ranked among the top liberal arts colleges in the country. Of course, this all depends on how strict your criteria is for a good school. If you're only interested in the top 20 colleges, most of them are in the northeast or on the west coast. If you expand your definition to include the top 200 colleges, it will be relatively easy to find a school that's up to your standards in any area of the country.Even if you think you’re an â€Å"East Coast† person or a â€Å"Southern† person, you’ll almost certainly meet students you can relate to in any geographical location.Although there may be different cultural norms in different parts of the country, you shouldn’t worry that you won’t find friends if you go somewhere new.At most colleges, there is a niche for every type of student. You might end up finding your best friends in a place you never expected! Much like this cleverly camouflaged owl, you will find your niche. WhereShouldYouGo to College? How Can You Decide? There are many factors that might play into this decision.Again, keep in mind that there is no â€Å"bad† area of the country for you to attend college. Where you are can make a difference in your experience, but it really comes down to personal preference. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself to guide your choices. How Comfortable Are You With Going Far From Home for College? This is probably the most significant question that goes into choosing the location of your college. If you want to visit home frequently, going to college on the other side of the country might be tough for you no matter how great the school is.If you're looking to get as far from home as possible, a school 3,000 miles away might be a better choice for you than a school that’s an hour away from your parents’ house. Going to school farther away from home can mean some tricky logistics in terms of transporting your belongings and organizing trips to see your family.Make sure you’re willing to navigate these issues and won’t be too bummed out if you can’t make it to Thanksgiving. Read this article for more advice on whether you should go to college close to home. Do You Have Any Specific Job Interests That Will Be Better Served in a Certain Area of the Country? As I mentioned, some parts of the country are known to provide the best opportunities in certain industries. If you already have some idea of what you want to study, you should investigate where you might go to be in the best place for internships and jobs in the industry. It’s possible to find opportunities for most job fields almost anywhere, but if you have strong convictions about your career path, it’s a good idea to position yourself strategically. If you’re still undecided in what you want to study, you shouldn’t worry too much about this! If you don't know what you love yet, that's okay. Your brain is still working on transitioning to adulthood. Are You Especially Concerned About the Costs of College? You don’t necessarily have to spend more money on college just because you’re in an expensive coastal city, but it’s likely enough that you should take it under consideration in your college decisions. If you’re hoping to live off campus at some point, you might want to avoid cities with really high rents. Costs tend to also be higher if you choose to go to college far from home but still plan on visiting semi-regularly. Plane tickets and shipping costs for your belongings can add up quickly. These factors may be of more or less importance depending on your financial aid situation and the scholarships colleges give you. Do You Have Any Climate Preferences? Which is worse in your opinion? Being too cold or being too hot? This shouldn’t play a huge role in your decision, but you might use it to guide your college search towards areas that fit better with your preferences. You probably shouldn’t go to school in Maine if you hate snow, and you probably shouldn’t go to school in Florida if you hate it when the air temperature makes you feel like you’re always in a sauna. Seasonal changes are also factors that might come into play. For example, since I grew up in Massachusetts, I have a lot of nostalgia surrounding fall in particular. Many traditions that come with the seasons are tied to changes in the weather that don’t happen in every area of the country. Apple picking and excessive apple consumption are both staples of my autumn experience. Conclusion "Where should I go to college?" is an important question. It may matter where in the country you go to college depending on how strong your preferences are for a certain type of experience. Some factors to consider include distance from home, potential job opportunities, costs of living, and weather patterns. One thing that the location of your college will not determine is the quality of your education. If you don’t feel very strongly about any of the factors listed, you shouldn’t worry too much about regional variation. As long as you love the school itself, you will have a great time in college no matter where you are! Suicide as an Ideation, Gestures or Threats Essay

Suicide as an Ideation, Gestures or Threats - Essay Example Accordingly, one of the most common psychiatric disorders associated with suicide is major depression (Gliatto & Ria, 1999) and suicide among the elderly is likely to happen in the context of a depressive episode. Depression is identified as one of the most powerful independent risk factor associated with suicide in old age (Connor et. al., 2011) and is known to increase the risk of suicide by 15 to 20 times (Hawton, 2009). Furthermore, it has been found that depression rates are higher among women than in men, which is congruous with the case study. Other psychiatric conditions associated with suicide are substance abuse, schizophrenia and psychotic disorders. Research suggests that genetic factors are highly related to a particular person risk for committing suicide. According to Reiss and Dombeck (2007), The offspring of individuals who have attempted and completed suicides have an increased likelihood to commit the same behavior themselves. Therefore, suicide â€Å"runs† in the family. In addition, it has been found that dysregulation of the Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) axis (mechanism responsible for coping with stresses over time) can develop following traumatic events or chronic stress, and has been linked to severe depression and suicidal behavior (Reiss & Dombeck, 2007). This supports the large body of evidence that dysfunctional neurotrophic signaling might be involved in the pathophysiology of suicidal behavior. The prevalence of illnesses later in life contributes to the common assumption that the occurrence of physical ailments plays a significant role in suicide risk later in life. According to Hawton and Heeringen (2009), poor physical health and disabilities are associated with suicides. Suicide is consistently associated with social factors and age-related life events especially among the elderly. Lack of supportive social network and religious participation as well as family disputes, low level of education, financial difficulties and sense of loneliness greatly increases the risk for suicide (Connor, et. al 2011).

Benazir was a Pakistan leader who spent all her life fighting for education. Malala creates a connection with famous leaders and immediately buys the attention of the listeners. Her audiences, who most likely are in support of her ideas, have the knowledge about Benazir and hence it is strategic to mention her at the beginning of her speech. By associating with famous people who have spoken in such a platform before, she manages to command attention. She makes an impression of having knowledge of what she is about to speak about. As she continues giving her speech, she mentions famous leaders such as martin Luther, Mohammed Jinna and Nelson Mandela, who are known for their compassion. Although she is a Muslim, she says that her ideas are based on the mercy that both Jesus and Mohammed showed to the people. By saying this, she manages to show that she is here to represent all the people who have gone through her situation. It also reveals that the issue affects many people, and it deserves much more attention. She says, â€Å"I am just one of them. So here I stand, one girl amongst many.† (United Nations,

Investing in Portfolios and CAPM Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Investing in Portfolios and CAPM - Essay Example If the investor chooses alternative 1 and invests all the money in Evergreen, then he can earn a return of 13.8%. Since Evergreen is a safe company, therefore the standard deviation of returns is quite low and risk coefficient is only 0.11. One must keep in mind that by investing in this company, the investor is foregoing chance of earning high returns. In other words, the investor is foregoing chance of earning high returns for increased safety by investing in this company. On the other hand, in the case of alternative 2, if the investor decides to invest in more dynamic of the two companies ACE limited, then the investor is foregoing safety of investment for high returns. This will enable the investor to earn a return which is as high as 25%. However, the risk coefficient and standard deviation for this investment is also higher at 0.31 and 7.6% respectively. A third option is to invest in the form of an equally weighted portfolio. In this case, the returns have increased from what the investor could earn by investing solely in Evergreen and at the same time the high risk of investing in Ace Ltd has also been reduced. The returns have increased from 13.8% to 19% and at the same time risk coefficient has decreased from 0.31 to 0.2. In the case of alternative 4, the investor will invest heavily in Evergreen and take very small exposure in ACE. This option is probably the worst alternative because the returns of this option are not very high, but the risk has greatly increased to 0.47. In the above scenario, we can see that the returns have increased when the investor has decided to invest in portfolios and at the same time risk coefficient has gone down. This tells us that diversification leads to lower risk and high return. However, one must keep in mind that diversification only minimizes one type of risk that an investor faces. There is another kind of risk which is known as systematic risk and it cannot be eliminated no matter how well diversified the portf olio is. Hence, there is always some chance of investors losing money even if the money is invested in the form of a portfolio. The correlation coefficient above shows that the investment in Evergreen and Ace is negatively correlated. A shrewd investor always try to invest in companies that are negatively correlate so that the downward trend in the returns of one business can be offset by the increased returns on the other investment in the same portfolio. However, since these two investments are not perfectly correlated, the portfolio is not well balance and some side will be higher than another and investor can face periods of high returns or loss depending on the market situation. It can be concluded from studying the above alternatives that it is wise for investors to not to take large exposures on one single stock. The investors should try to construct portfolios that should give equal or close weightage to all the companies in the portfolios in order to enjoy the benefits of r isk diversification. If there is one company in the portfolio which has higher weightage than the other companies ten the portfolio’s performance will be highly dependent on that one company and benefits of diversification will disappear. TASK 2: Capital Asset Pricing Model is a tool to
